"There's something so appealingly primal and intuitive about this band. For much of the album, they stick to their signature, pretty much failsafe formula of killer low-slung bass-lines, frazzled drumming and jagged synth vamps, owing a large debt to post-punk influences such as Liquid Liquid (whose Dennis Young plays percussion here). It's an austere, often claustrophobic sound, but one that's also celebratory through its sheer propulsive force. At points, it's like a stoner-rock band gone disco, with huge bass riffs wrapped in murky, spooky atmospherics.
